| THE FLOATING THEATRE Foundation The competition lists the foundation costs for 5 different locations on the site - ranging from 27 to 64 million. Establishing the construction site, draining grounds and piling are essentially money lost before getting the first m2 of the theatre We propose to erect the theatre from an 80x50m2 floating platform. The platform can be constructed as a standard barge on a shipyard at a fixed price, or cast in Nordhavnen like the Öresund tunnel elements. The barge can then be towed to a convenient location where the rest of the theatre can be erected. On opening day all of Copenhagen can gather on the shore of Kvæsthus plaza to greet the Royal theatre as it enters the harbor. The hollow space of the barge accomodates 190 parking spaces for free. All this can be constructed cheaper than the cost of conventional foundations alone. |
