THE FLOATING THEATRE
Remote construction
Building the theatre off site will give tremendous cost savings from
not having to establish a site in the inner city. The general added
cost for constructing in Copenhagen inner city is estimated at 10-15%.
It can even be built in a large hall like the B&W shipyard, with all
the benefits of a construction site protected from rough weather.
Remote construction will also spare the inner city from the noise
pollution and heavy traffic that accompanies a 3-year large-scale
construction.
Furthermore since the Ferries do not yet have new terminal facilities,
there is a great risk of a delay on the construction start. Constructing
the theatre on a more convenient location gives the opportunity to
start construction 3 years before the ferries have left the site.
