INSIDE THE THEATER
Audience
Often the auditorium and balconies are enveloped by a dead zone of
corridor on all levels.
Traditional balconies embracing the stage would be in the way of the
extended proscenium. By turning the balconies in to stairs and ramps
going above and below the stage opening, we can resolve the main circulation
within the auditorium, eliminating dead corridors while increasing
the amount of potential event space.
On the kings side the 2 balconies ascend and connect to the upper
foyer, leaving space for a giant sliding door below it. Before and
after the show, large masses can flow uninhibited through the 10m
opening. On the ladies side the balconies connect to the main floor
providing a shortcut to the ground floor foyer spaces. Above the queens
balcony pierces the auditorium straight from the royal foyer.
